Our little bookmaker

Well, Lucy has done it again. Surprised me with her wit and skill. She made books for Tim and I today. She got the idea from her Highlights magazine I am sure. They have a little cut out section at the end of the magazine to cut and staple together to make a little book. Henry was napping, Tim was doing something upstairs, Lucy and I had just read 2 books about groundhogs day, one of which was just way too many details for me, and I told her I had to close my eyes. I ended up falling asleep on the couch sitting up, and Lucy quietly went to work on said books. (if you follow facebook, you'll know that is funny, because Lucy frequently uses "said" in that way; she learned it from dad.)

When I woke up I could hear her talking, reading outloud what she was writing on the cover. She asked Tim for some help in binding it together, but she got the idea of using a pipe cleaner and a hole punch to bind them. In just a few minutes she presented me with my book!! Here goes:

She read to me, using her finger so I could follow along (on the right side). I didn't catch every beautiful word, but some of the highlights were: "Dear Sarah, Here is a book for you.....with lots of love cause Valentine's Day is coming up.....and please forgive me hundreds of times when I make mistakes..." Oh I wish I could remember every delightful word she wrote! hehe. On the left side is "i y m" repeated over and over. she said "i-y-m: that spells 'wim'. that is the name of the witch on the front". We just finished our unit on M, and this is the first time that she started writing a letter she has learned on her own. and she's been making "i"s out of other tools around the house. y is already one of her faves since it's in her name. I love the tinsel (?) coming off the witches hat!

A rainbow, and yes, she has known the correct order of a rainbow's colors for many months thanks to the Cat in the Hat cartoon/show with a little song.

This might be my favorite: "This is you when you were skinny". WHAT??!! First of all, she's never known me skinny. Second of all, is this meant to be an encouragement or?? have I been discussing being skinny absentmindedly? Funny, but odd.

The left page was a green ball that she wanted, and the right side is her. When she was describing it, she said "I'm sorry i didn't use the color of my real hair." and looked at her own hair, perhaps double checking that it wasn't green? I told her I loved her book and her green hair and everything about it!!

Then it was time to hand over Daddy's book. I saw her draw the pictures this morning, not knowing they were going in a book!
Her black and white illustrations! This was a picture that "Dora took of me when we were walking in the park on a sunday day".

This was a picture of Dora I think with a "blueberry house" there on the right. ??

Top row left to right, a tomato and a glass of wine, below is a potato with eyes. i just report the news people!!
And finally a house with the sun going down. See how the sun is below the house? perspective!!!??? To note, she put Tim's book together completely by herself, while both of us were dealing with a messy Henry. She was very proud of that, as she should be. These are going in the fireproof box, no doubt, with perhaps a print out of this post so that we can remember it all!!

Happy Groundhogs day!! It was cloudy here, which is supposed to mean that spring is coming!!
