Lucy's first pet

Lucy's been begging for a pet for 2 solid days. Any pet. A hamster, a gerbil, a fish, "anything Mommy, PLEASE!!" The "responsibility" conversation has happened more than once. If she can pick up her clothes, take her dishes to the kitchen, remember to drink water herself!! Then we'll talk about a pet.

Lucy likes to make "birthday cakes" out of dirt, leaves, berries off our bush, etc. Yesterday she brought in a cup of outside world, without anyone realizing it. A few hours later, as luck would have it, Lucy discovered a little bug, brought inside via the birthday cake. "MOM!!! It's my first pet roly poly!!" She has spent the last 36 hours, checking on Violet, her roly poly pet. (I said it might not be a roly poly, but a cousin perhaps. It's stuck).

Violet's birth announcement so to speak. (adoption papers?) "Our pet is a roly poly cousin what we have to only give a teaspoon of water 3 times a day"

She waters it (drowns it), gives it free play time, makes sure she has her favorite rock to sit on when putting her back in her main home. And tonight, a special bonus, Violet has a TWIN that has been birthed (or excavated) from the same pile of dirt and twigs!! Several times I have wondered if Violet has died, only to be reassured by Lucy (after some prodding) that she is just sleeping. Let's be real, I was hoping she had lived a good long life and was ready to crawl the streets of Gold.

Violet Twin was nearly drowned tonight, but somehow crawled up the inside of the cup. We got her to agree that she needs a little fresh air, and we put her on the porch for the night. Lucy still has the other Violet Twin (I don't know which one's which now!) in a cup in her room.

Praying for no bed bugs tonight!

Violet being transported and admired

Violet's home and free-play area. Can you see little V in the left hand corner?
